*Note: Preview function will not work for this template, you must publish to see it in action.
The grid template will display the featured images of multiple stories without the traditional header. The featured images will link to each story, and upon mouse-over, the text of the story will appear over the top of the picture. This template also allows options for immersive photography on the container story. On stories with the grid template in use, there is a navigation menu icon to the left of the publication name in the header. This navigation menu will display which ever menu you have in the Mobile Menu location.
Steps
-
Create a new story, give it a headline, and a featured image. Assign it to a category and change the template from default to Grid Container. You don't need to add text to the body of the story, this is simply acting as the container for all the other stories you're about to add. Save it.
-
Create a new story, give it a headline, a featured image, give it some text. Don't bother assigning it to a category (step 1 took care of this). Change the template from default to Grid Chapter and choose the Grid Container you want it assigned to (from step 1). Save it.
-
Follow step 2 again and again until you've created all the stories you want to be under that main container from step 1.
Grid Container
To use the grid layout for a story, first create a main or container story that will "hold" the stories you wish to display in the grid. When you create this container story, choose Grid Container from the Story Page Template section on the right side of the Edit Story page. Your container story can have content or can be kept blank and just be used as a container. However it must have a headline.
Grid Chapters
Every Grid Container needs Grid Chapters. After you have created the container story, simply add a new story and choose Grid Chapter from the Story Page Template section on the right side of the Edit Story page. Once this is clicked, you will need to choose which grid container story it goes with and fill in the other options provided. As with the container story, the rest of the Edit Story page will function normally.
Notes About the Immersive Featured Image:
- You can only have an immersive featured image on the Grid Container Story.
- The immersive featured image must be horizontal.
- The caption and photographer do not display with the immersive featured image. We recommend adding this information to the body of the story either in the text or by pasting and editing this short code as the first line in the main story box on the Edit Story page: [sidebar title=”Above Photo” align=”right”]This is the caption.[/sidebar]
- The immersive image is much larger than other photos on the site so we recommend a size of 1500 pixels by 1000 pixels.
