While knowing the basics of journalism ethics can be a great guide for what you should or shouldn’t do, and a solid understanding of copyright law will help guide you in determining what media you can or cannot use for your website, there are some foundational laws and cases that determine what you can or can’t do as a journalist.

What can we do? What can’t we do?
Name the five freedoms of the First Amendment and think of an example of how that freedom can be practiced. Then write the five things you cannot publish under the Tinker standard, and think of an example of something that might be published which would violate that portion of the standard.
