Glossary
Assignment Type: A label for the type of work that's required for a story to be completed, such as Writing, Photography, Video, and Design. You can create as many Assignment Types as you like, although you really only need a few. We also have prepopulated several common Assignment Types for you.
Story Tag Group: A label to organize your stories. A Story Tag Group can include sub-segments or sub-tags, as well. For example, if your Story Tag Group is called "Section", you can have several sub-segments for that Tag Group nested within it, such as "News", "Sports", "Entertainment", etc. Again, we've prepopulated several common Story Tag Groups for you.
Key Editor: Someone who will always be assigned to a certain story, based on the chosen Assignment Type and/or the Story Tag. Think of Key Editors as people that should always be attached to a certain type of story, such as a Copy Editor for Writing pieces or Video Editor for Video pieces. When a story is assigned to an Assignment Type or a Story Tag with a Key Editor, those Key Editors will automatically show up on the list of users to submit to. You can set Key Editors in the Settings page within Assignment Types and Story Tags or in a user's individual user profile.
Workflow: A Workflow is a list of users or group of users an assignment needs to be submitted to before it is considered Approved. You can create as many Workflows as you like (although you shouldn't need too many) and manage them under your Settings. Think of Workflows as a logical progression and hierarchy of steps from one staff member to the next within a given type of story. Such as Copy Editor -> Section Editor -> Editor-in-Chief -> Adviser. You can choose to assign a default Workflow for a specific type of Assignment Type, such as a Writing Workflow for the Writing Assignment Type.
Checklist: A preset list of tasks that can be added to any assignment. You can create these on the fly while creating a new story or create defaults under your Settings panel. Think of these as common tasks related to your Assignment Types or Story Tags.
Layout Builder: A great way to layout the content for print newspaper editions and yearbook spreads. The layout builder lets you create a layout of pages, as well as add stories and assignments for each page.
