The Continuous Coverage badge encourages staffs to think with an online-first mentality – turning stories around quickly, writing stories about developments in ongoing news events, incorporating live coverage, and regularly posting stories across multiple categories. For this badge our reviewers are looking for stories submitted across three areas, and categories that are regularly updated. Here are the guidelines for the Continuous Coverage badge:
Developing Stories:
Publish three fully-developed, separate stories over time about an ongoing news event in your community and link those stories together to give the reader context to a developing story/coverage.
1. All three stories are fully-developed (300+ words), include quotes obtained from interviews from at least two different sources and use journalistically sound writing.
2. The stories are published over time rather than all at once.
3. The stories are about the same ongoing news event in your local community.
4. All three stories are from the current school year.
5. Stories contain no obvious spelling or grammatical errors and are written in the traditional journalistic style.
Quick Coverage:
Publish three fully-developed stories no more than two school days after the news events being covered. Events must be local to your school or its community. All of these stories must have been published during the current school year.
1. All three stories are fully-developed (300+ words), include quotes obtained from interviews from at least two different sources and use journalistically sound writing.
2. The stories are published no more than two days after the event being covered.
3. All three stories are from the current school year.
4. Stories contain no obvious spelling or grammatical errors and are written in the traditional journalistic style.
Sustained Coverage:
Submit three different categories on your site. In each category, publish at least one new story per week for four consecutive weeks (Ex: Sept. 1, Sept. 8, Sept. 15, Sept. 22). Indicate the four-week period you would like our reviewers to assess.
1. The stories in each submitted category are fully-developed.
2. The most recent stories in each submitted category are from the current school year.
Live Coverage:
1. Add a link to one story that is updated live over a period of days or hours. This can be done using the Live Coverage tool available with the SNO Site Booster, or by manually updating the story and noting the dates and times of those updates with headers at the top of the update.
2.This story should contain at least five updates with photo or video updates added throughout and at least one quote obtained by interview.
