You can easily set up your widgets so that stories do not appear multiple times on your homepage, or set them to not show one specific category or child (sub) category.
Exclude Stories Appearing in Widget from Widgets Loading after
Using this exclusion will prevent stories appearing in a widget from appearing in any widgets loading after it. Setting this exclusion in all of your widgets will ensure that stories only appear once on your homepage, even if they are assigned to multiple categories.
- Go to the Widget Control Panel (Appearance -> Widgets).
- Click on the widget you’d like to set exclusion in to open its settings.
- Toggle the advanced design options to showing using the button at the top center.
- In the first column, check the box for “Exclude stories in this widget from all other widgets loaded after this one.”
- Click Save in the upper right corner.
Exclude One Category from a Widget
This exclusion is useful if you want to prevent one category or child (sub) category from appearing in a widget. You can choose to exclude all of that category or set a specific number of stories in that category to exclude. You are only able to exclude one category in each widget.
- Go to the Widget Control Panel (Appearance -> Widgets).
- Click on the widget you’d like to add exclusion to open its settings.
- Toggle the advanced design options to showing using the button at the top center.
- In the first column, check the box for “Activate Exclusion Option.”
- In the Category to Exclude dropdown, select the category you would like to exclude from this widget.
- If you’d like, adjust the Number to Exclude dropdown.
- Click the blue Save button in the upper right corner.
Exclude Child Categories
When your widget is set to show a category, that widget will also include any stories in child (sub) categories by default. For example, if you have a parent category of Multimedia that has Video and Podcast set as child (sub) categories, your Multimedia widget will show stories assigned to Multimedia, Video, and Podcast.
If you do not want your parent category widget to show those child categories, you can set your widget to exclude those child categories.
- Go to the Widget Control Panel (Appearance -> Widgets).
- Click on the widget you’d like to exclude child categories in to open its settings.
- Toggle the advanced design options to showing using the button at the top center.
- In the first column, deselect the box for “Include stories from child categories."
- Click Save in the upper right corner.
